So today is my 25 week mark, (YAY) and I don't know about you ladies, but I feel very un-prepared for LO!
I won't be living the same place I that I will for when LO gets here, and I am unsure of when I should be making big purchases like Crib/mattress, and even items like Baby clothes! I haven't bought one article of baby clothing, because people have been telling me "well wait till after the shower, because you don't know what your going to get" As it stands right now, I do not think I will even be getting a shower because A) DH is in the army and will be away when even though he's been saying he wants to help arrange it..(WEIRD I KNOW) and
his mom who wants to help, lived in the California, where as we live up in Canada, sooo it just doesn't add up to working out...
Should I go ahead and start buying/looking for a crib and baby clothing for newborn and 3 months +, or should I wait until the month I move and SEE if a shower is arranged?? I don't want to feel unprepared but all I have purchased thus far is a diaper bag, and a glider. Anyone else feel like somewhat unprepared?
Re: Unprepared @ 25 weeks
I'm 25 weeks and I haven't done anything. My brother and sister in law are going to give me their car seat this weekend and I figure I'll get a pack n play and some clothes, diaper stuff and a breast pump in the next couple of months and then just get the rest after the baby is here.
I'm a minimalistic kind of person when it comes to this stuff and I'm not very motivated.
You still have plenty of time for most things. I would start to look at cribs because we ended up wanting one that needed to be ordered and took 2 months to arrive. We set it up 6 weeks before DS was due and he arrived 4 weeks later.
I haven't done anything yet for this baby except I have newborn cloth diapers. I will start getting some clothes and things once I find out the sex on Friday. We will get the rooms ready in June once DH is done with school and track.
I would get your crib now. When is your shower? Try to space things out like make little purchases here and there. That way when you hit your 3rd trimester your not feeling completely overwhelmed.
We planned on buying our crib and not letting anyone purchase it for us. This weekend we will start painting the nursery. Which is FINALLY cleaned out. Yes we have time but my shower is in June and our house isn't that big so I want to have a place to put everything by the time that gets here.
Maybe you could just buy a bassinett instead of a crib that way there's not so much to move but you are still more 'prepared'.
My dad and grandma bought our nursery furniture, otherwise we probably would've waited longer. We just set it up this week.
I would definitely wait to buy too many clothes in case that's all you get at the possible shower.
Start buying gift cards, start you registry so you have things picked out and know how much $$. Plus, if family is far away and asks about a shower you can at least tel them where you are registered and they can send you gifts if they want.
This.
And I am 25 weeks today and have pretty much nothing done and am not ready at all! Glad we have 3 more months!
We haven't done much of anything either. I've always been a last minute kind of person...so I'm sure preparing for baby will be just the same! We do have the crib though, along with the bedding...but that's about it! I'm not having a shower but did register so family and friends could get stuff if they wanted. We're also getting some stuff from my fiance's brother...so I've really just been trying to determine WHAT we'll need to get ourselves.
If it makes you feel any better... you REALLY don't need much when they are newborns. The only things I would be sure to have by the time the baby comes are:
diapers
wipes
newborn layette (onsies, pants, pj's, hat, socks)
burp cloths
bath tub
blankets
pacifiers
a couple of bottles
formula (if you aren't breastfeeding)
You can wait to get the crib, glider, and all the fun baby stuff. You won't use it until the baby is a couple of months old anyway.
If you're going to be moving before baby's arrival, I would hold off on the crib mattress etc. You may want to order the crib/furniture though, as they can take several weeks to arrive (depends on brand). Or if you have/get a Pack N Plan or Bassinett that will do for the first couple of months and you can worry about the furniture after you move.
If I didn't know I was having a shower I would definately purchase a few things- diapers & wipes, some clothing (consignment stores & sales are great for this since they grow so quickly)...the necessities.
I'm 25 weeks also, and so far we bought a crib/changing table combo and a stroller/carseat. I've acquired a handful of clothing items from friends and family, but that's about it. The only reason we got those things so early was because my husband wanted to make sure I had the main things before he left (he's military also).
I agree that waiting to buy smaller stuff could be better, because you might get stuff. Even if you don't have a shower, your friends and family will want to buy you stuff. Did you do a registry? If not, I would suggest doing that, so at least you have a checklist, and others know what you still need.
I'm 24 weeks and haven't done a single thing, and suddenly it hit me that I only have 4 more months to get this stuff together, eek. We're going on vacation next week but as soon as we get back I'm going to start buying furniture/nursery decorating.
The thing that really stresses me out is that I want to wait until after my baby showers to really start buying anything, but in the mean time I feel so unprepared it is driving me crazy.
Okay, I have been working on our cloth diaper stash. Other than that, though, we have done nothing. I suppose it's time to start getting serious about getting baby stuff!
Oh boy this made me feel a lot better
I like the idea of purchasing a bassinet I think, and than getting a crib AFTER the baby is born and starts to outgrow the bassinet. And I never even thought of just keeping receipts and returning anything I recieve as gifts. I'm not much of an asker, so It isn't really a big deal at all to me if I have a shower or not... I know friends and family will be purchase me stuff no matter what, so I almost feel that by not having one I can prepare myself better. If that makes any sence ^_^
You ladies all have great idea's! Thanks for calming my nerves, I think I'm ready to make a small list of purchases to start on myself.
