a diaper pail???

I am so clueless - my mom just freaked on the phone with me because we don't have a diaper pail yet. 

Guess this is a very important item - sheesh, the kid isn't even freaking here yet, not like I need one tomorrow for crying out loud.

So - which diaper pail to get?  Anyone have any suggestions?

We never got one. Just used walmart bags in a small trash can. Honestly, his poop never was that stinky until he became a toddler. Now I wish I had one, but before now, when the can got full the trash went out. Once a day or two. Before it could stink up the place.

We have one of the safety first ones but only because one of my friends from work gave it to us.  We haven't used it once yet.....but I guess we might use it when he is a toddler if WyWysMommy is right and his poop becomes a lot stinkier!!

I have a Diaper Genie 2.  It's ok.  When they were little, we put the wet diapers in a trash can and save the genie or the dirty diapers.  It saved a lot of money in liners!  Now we have the Genie up in the nursery and a regular trash can downstairs for changing.  Buying the refills can be a pain, but overall it's a good product.

Word to the wise: when you are changing the liner, don't try to get all the air out of the bag.  I did that the first time and almost threw up as the smell was HORRIBLE!  Now I just take a deep breath in before I change and go as fast as I can. 

All in all, it's not a necessity, IMO.  If you want one, they're nice but it's also ok to not have one.

We had the Diaper Dekor but got tired of buying the $$$ bags to refill.  We switched to the Diaper Champ and love it.  I get the odor neutralizing bags from the grocery store and it is so much cheaper!

clearly - I am going to be a horrible mother because I don't have a diaper pail yet!  I almost started laughing on the phone with her - but she was all serious about it.

This is hilarious (because I've accidentally done this, too)! We also have the Diaper Genie II Elite. It was a gift, otherwise I probably would've gotten the diaper champ so I didn't have to buy the refills. I have no complaints about it, though.

We have the Diaper Dekor and I do think paying $15 for refills is a little over the top. We will probably go with the Diaper Champ next time as well.

We started out just throwing them in the trash.  I finally broke down last week and bought the Diaper Champ.  So far we really like it.  You can use regular 13 gallon trash bags.  I do make a point to change out the bag each day even if it isn't full (which it isn't ever full at the end of one day) and spray the inside of the can with Lysol just to keep the odor away.  So far it has worked!

We have two Diaper Champs, one is an older model and one is the new model. Both work great, but I like the newer one much better. Never had any problems with either though.
