Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When (if ever) did you switch to Level 3 nipples?

DD is 6.5 months and we're still on Level 2 bottle nipples. My SIL said she never needed to switch to Level 3. I'm just wondering if this is common or not.

Re: When (if ever) did you switch to Level 3 nipples?

  • We switched to Level 3 for regular feedings. I still use Level 2 for before naptime, bedtime, and nighttime feedings.

  • We switched when it was taking DD too long (more than 10 min.) to finish a bottle.  She also started not finishing her bottles b/c she had to work too hard for it.
  • We haven't ... they do fine on the level two still

We tried to though .... but DD started choking

  • About 6 months. We switched because it took forever for them to drink and they got frustrated and stopped finishing.

We haven't switched them to 4s yet because they still seem happpy with the 3s.

  • Maybe a month ago or a little more we switched. DD was taking 20 min to drink a bottle and wouldnt finish. I think she was getting too tired sucking. Now she drinks them much quicker and almost always finishes.
  • Daycare is asking us to please switch to Level 3 for his daytime bottles.  He seems fine at bedtime and in the morning though with Level 2.
  • We switched to level 3 around 7 months.  I tried at 6 months and he wasn't ready for that fast of flow and would end up spitting lots of milk out.  Now he doesn't lose a drop!

  • just yesterday. DS kept getting fustrated and hitting his bottle. I figured the milk wasn't coming out fast enough.

bought lvl 3, problem solved. he's happy again.

  • At 6 months, if I remember correctly. We are still doing fine on 3s at all feedings though, 4 months later.
  • We are switching tonight. DD is taking forever to finish her bottles.

DS still chokes on anything but size 1, maybe he is strange, he doesnt choke on food or sippy cups, I guess he just likes the slow flow better.
  • Tahlia has been on level 3 nipples since about 5 months.  If she has to work too hard for the milk, she will just give up.

  • my LOs are still on level 2's...they seem ok, tho there has been a lot of "bottle smacking" while they eat...perhaps they wanted the 3 nipples? I don't know that I wanna but them at this point tho...hmm...

  • We switched a little over a month ago.  We did level 2's at night for a week or so after the switch because they were finishing too quick and Lauryn would cry because she still wanted to suck.  But now level 3's at all feedings and no problems.

  • We switched at about 7 months.  DD was taking a looooonnng time to finish the bottle so we thought it was time.
  • We switched a few weeks ago.

  • I was thinking of switching recently but DCP hasn't mentioned anything yet. We wont unless she has an issue with the medium flow.

  • We are still on level 1.

DD can't handle a 2 because it just all drips out of her mouth. DS downs his bottle in about 5 min on a level 1 so why bother.

  • We haven't switched to fast flow and my DD is 10 months. I think I might have wasted money on those nipples.

  • We switched to level 3 at 6 months, when she got frustrated and it started taking longer. We may actually go up to 4 in a few weeks.

  • Errrr...we still use slow flow (1's) nipples. DS tends to aspirate the fluid so his OT wants him to stay on the 1's until he can pace better. He finishes his bottle in about 10-15 minutes. He doesn't seem to mind too much.

  • I felt like we were on level 2 FOREVER. We made it to 3 around 7 months.
  • DD is 9 1/2 months and is still on level 2. We didn't switch to 2s until 7m, though.
