MrsTony

I saw your page and was just "looking" for you!

I did see that post.  Its amazing what she did just with a little molding and paint.  Did you see JAG's post about using a bedskirt as the bottom of her DD's curtains that were too short?  So clever!  I think I love blog's because I can steal other people's ideas and pretend to be crafty myself.

I bought a gallon of BM matte finish paint yesterday in Pomegranate for .50!!  Can you believe it?  One day Chris will finish Sam's gas pump bookshelf and he can use the paint for that.

Re: MrsTony

  • LOL, you and me both!! Because god knows I don't have any creative ideas of my own.

I did see that one and that was a good one. it changed the whole look of the curtain and she made it from something she already had! My mind just doesn't work that way.

Wow, that's a great deal!!! (I love that color too) I never think to look at the clearance sections although I am starting too. Especially at Home Goods and other places as the potential for changing it on your own is there (like spray painting picture frames!)

I meant to tell you what happened with us.  We are painting our house in Maine inside. Greg and my BIL are doing it this week. So we picked our colors and my BIL went to get them. Well that was a fiasco as I guess BM changed the numbers so my SIL picked Cedar Key which should be along the lines of taupe and it was actually a dark gray color!! He was horrified.  He went back to the store and was going to have them check it all.  He ended up with Carlisle Cream for the main area (which I said was fine) but that was supposed to be Tumbled Marble. It was the weirdest thing.

  • Oh no!  What a PITA!

Did you get the blue color you told me about?  When can I see the before and afters?

  • Yeah, my BIL was a mess about the whole thing! Somehow I had to call him and figure out what would work. Guess I am the paint expert.

Yes, we got the blue color for the bathroom and I think my mom is going to use that for her bedroom too.

I am not sure when I'll be heading up there - possibly not until Memorial Day but I will definitely send you some pics. It really needed it up there. It was last decorated in the 70's by my MIL who (god rest her soul) had some really tacky choices!!!

  • That's great that you were able to figure it all out.

I can't wait to see it!  I think most of the decorating choices made in the 70s are pretty tacky!  haha!

I am going to do a smokey blue in my laundry room, I think.  I am just waiting for Chris's work schedule to lighten up before I tackle that one because I need his help with some of it.

  • That will look nice with the black cabinet you plan on doing in there (right?)

Yeah, she had a thing for blue countertops and fixtures! We are replacing the vanity, toilet and sink in the bathroom (thank god) so that will spruce it up.

  • Oh, wow!  How does the kitchen look?

Yes, black cabinets.  The plan is a white granite countertop, new sink, paint on the walls, maybe white beadboard 3/4 or 2/3 of the way up the wall, a black mudroom type cabinet for the boys to store their stuff once they're in school, new cabinet above the counter and shelves above the washer and dryer.  I'm just not sure how the beadboard will look with the stained molding and windows, so that get nixed once I think about it some more.

  • Unfortunately, it has blue countertops!!!  Dark cabinets. Set-up wise it's perfect. I am not by any means complaining as it's nice to have a summer house but it's hard as both my SIL and I haven't wanted to step on any toes by changing things up.  The guys have been on board with the painting and the other stuff as I think they know it's time to start doing some upgrading up there.  We had the outside painted last year.

that sounds nice! I wish I had a mudroom!

  • Is the counter laminate?  I came across this site a while ago.  Maybe it will work for you!  I think you can get it at HD or Lowe's.
