Changing Pads - What will you do?

When your LO grows longer than the changing pad, what do you plan on doing (or what are you already doing)? Do you just keep using it and letting their legs dangle off? DD is going to outgrow hers by the summer, I'm sure. Plus with all the squirming, it's getting harder to contain her on the pad as she gets bigger. I don't want to change her on the floor because it's hard wood and would be very uncomfortable. I'm thinking maybe a jumbo fold-up pad on top of the bed. But I don't know if that would contain the pee when she occasionally decides to let loose once I open the diaper. Don't really want a pee-soaked bed! What will/do you do?

Re: Changing Pads - What will you do?

  • I have a peanut so I'm so not there yet, but downstairs in my family room I have a large blanket that I folded a few times and then a change pad. I will probably do something similar when she gets to that point up in her room.

  • We hardly ever use the changing pad anymore. We will just change his diaper wherever he is in the house....our bed, his nursery floor, the couch, playmat, etc

  • I've been thinking about this recently because J is almost longer than the pad.  We'll probably continue using the changing pad as long as it's feasible and then change him on the floor.

  • We don't change DS on his changing table anymore because he's too strong and rolls too much.  I use one of those waterproof multi-purpose pads on the floor or couch or wherever so it's protected.

  • we haven't been using the changing pad, not only because he is getting so big, but because i am afraid he will fall off, even with my holding onto him.  he's wild!  lol!

  • Thanks! It sounds like the waterproof pad on the bed or floor is what we'll have to resort to. Not looking forward to it though:( It's nice keeping her in the concave pad, and having all her supplies ready and in one spot. She's growing up too fast!!
  • I'll probably just change her on the guest room bed, which is right next door to her room, and put a waterproof pad on the bed under her.

This gets me thinking, however, about how much fun it will be to have cute things on her dresser-top when I can ditch the pad!

  • I plan on just letting his legs hang over for as long as we can.  That is what we do for the little boy that I babysit and he still does great (16 months old).
