STTN- is it a fluke?

LO slept from 10:00pm to 6:00 am the last two nights. My boss who has been a  pediatric nurse for 30 years says that it might not be something to get used to at this age- that it is highly unusual for a BF baby to sleep that long a stretch regularly.

What is your experiences?

  • My BF baby has been sleeping through the night since 4 weeks.  She clusterfeeds right before bed, and then STTN.

  • My DS has been an amazing sleeper since birth. The night he came home from the hospital, he slept 5 hours straight and just kept improving from there. I BF for the first 5 weeks, and then went to formula but that had no effect whatsoever on his sleeping habits. He started fully STTN (8+ hours straight) at about 7 weeks. I have yet to have a completely sleepless night with him-he's never had day/night confusion.

He has regressed in the past few nights since he's hitting the "4 month wakeful" and got up 3 times last night, so it's definitely possible to sleep well for an extended period then regress. Don't count on anything sticking at this young an age-just try to enjoy it while it lasts.

    HTH.

Surprise is that a special brand of swaddling blanket in your siggy, just a piece of material or what..? i was totally looking for something like that a while back!

  • My DD slept through the night (10-6ish) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights...then was up at 1:30 and 5 this morning. I think it'll come and go for awhile, especially depending on what we've done during the day and how tired she is. We had a busy weekend. Smile

I used the same photographer as qtpa2t and she has a bunch of jersey knit fabric pieces she uses to swaddle the babies. She told me she bought them from the fabric store.

  • The last three nights, LO has slept 10p-7am.  I am hoping it's not a fluke either!

  • DS has STTN a few times. I'm hoping that it will become a more frequent occurrence.
