3rd Trimester

37 weeks: cervix thin & soft, but closed

Dr says she predicts she'll see me at my next appointment on Monday. I am just curious if anyone went from completely closed to pretty big dilatation #s the next week.

BTW, I am thrilled about this... my goal with this kiddo has been to get to 38 weeks because we had our first at 36 and had to stay in the hospital for a few extra days with her.

  • First time they checked me I was a finger tip.....that was 4 weeks ago....still just a finger tip.  I'm hoping to go in tomorrow and have more progression because it will make my induction easier.

I'm still a fingertip dilated, I hope I've made some progress because we schedual the induction date tomorrow at my appt!!!
  • At 37 weeks I was 1.5cm and 80% effaced...at 38 weeks (and after a weeks worth of contractions and 2 trips to L&D) I was 1.5cm and 80% effaced.  I'm hoping for some bigger numbers at my appt tomorrow!

  • With DD I was 1 cm and 100% effaced at 37 weeks. And 38. And 39. And 40. And 41. I finally made some more progress at 42 weeks exactly, when I checked into L&D at 4 cm, lol.

I don't know why OBs/MWs make predictions based on dilation and effacement. It really means nothing. I've heard of people getting checked at a Dr appt in the morning with zero progress and going into labor that night and I've heard of people walking around at 3-4 cm for weeks. So I think you'll just have to wait and see. :)

  • Thanks ladies. I never made it to internals with DD, so despite having one kid already this is still all new to me!
