What do you send DC for lunch?

Keira's daycare provided lunch so we didn't need to worry about.  She is starting a preschool in July and I have no idea what to send with her.  She eats mostly hot stuff at home, she doesn't seem keen on sandwiches.

Besides yogurt, fruit and snacks, I have no idea.

Re: What do you send DC for lunch?

  • You could still send hot things in a thermos.  It might not be piping hot by lunch but I'm sure it would be warm enough for her to still like it and eat it.  When we were looking at other daycares last summer one of the women said she had seen everything imaginable for hot lunches in the kids thermoses and it was always a good temp by lunch time.
  • Yep, we have a thermos-type container and it's awesome. I pack chicken nuggets, hot dogs, mac and cheese, soup, pasta, whatever I know he'll eat for his entree. And then I usually try to pack a fruit and a vegetable (the vegetable is a challenge since he doesn't eat many) or some kind of snacky thing (like cheese crackers) to go with it. I send applesauce a lot, or fresh fruit, or freeze-dried fruits from TJs.

  • Will they heat it up?

I send B hot lunch's daily. Usually whatever I made for dinner the night before.

Now when she switches schools where they don't heat up food, I plan to try to start the bento thing like you can see in OctoberbrideNYC's blog

  • They won't heat stuff up there.  Maybe I will look into the bento thing.

    Thanks!
