Exercise while you are TTC ?

Most everything I have seen online is in reference to exercise while pregnant.  I am wondering if running (3-5miles/day) or other cardio classes (1-2hours /day instead of running) at my gym would impact my ability to conceive-especially during specific times of the month ?  Anyone have any insight/experience ?

TIA !

  • I'm not a doctor - but I have always been told while TTC or pregnant exercise is good (as long as you aren't doing more than you usually do, and pay attention to your body). GL!

  • My husband practices alternative medicine and does a lot of work with fertility patients.  He tells his patients to ease down on their exercising because it raises your body temp which can have a negative effect on conception.  He recommends light exercise.  Maybe something like yoga would be a good alternative for you...
  • This is just my experience, but after 11 months of trying to conceive, the month I quit the gym and didn't exercise at all is the month DD was conceived.  I don't know if stopping exercise had anything to do with it, but it was a strong coincidence, I though.
  • Runners World has a great book on the topic of running while TTC and pregnant.  It is called Running & Pregnancy (I know, real original title).  They say that women should have no problem TTC IF they have been running for at least 6 months, thier running does not interfere with their montly flow, and that they run for fun instead of getting stressed about it.  Stress can make it harder to concieve no matter where the stress is coming from.
