Hi Ladies,My husband and I are planning on trying to get pregnant in the next few months. We are both so excited, but are trying to make sure we have everything in order before we get pregnant. If all goes well with both of our incomes we can pay for daycare and insurance with no major problems. My concern is after birth. I want to stay home as long as possible. I have a short term disability plan, but I believe I can only take advantage of it if the Dr. says I can't return to work. Then all other leaves are unpaid.Did anyone find some kind of supplemental pay while they were out? Please advise??
Re: Maternity Leave Question
My company's short-term disability covers maternity leave- no one can go back to work the day after delivering! They do vary by % of your income they pay, though, and for how long (never more than 3 months, that I've heard of).
DH and I are also still working on how much time (unpaid) I want to take off, since I'll likely be leaving my job by December regardless, before I start a new one. You have to keep in mind that you don't pay for daycare while you're not working, which is a big difference in expenses. After tax savings from only 1 person working in a 3 person household, daycare + your salary might not be worth it at all- mine wouldn't be- so you can often afford to take off as much as you want if you're not making more than $30k or so anyway.
Hi Liss!! We sort of already talked about this before on FB But GL honey! You and hubby will find what fits for you guys. I had asked before... does your job offer free day care? I know sometimes your lines of work does, which would be awesome.
Hey! No it doesn't. =( I believe I do get the 2 weeks of STD. ?Uh, so much to think about. I wish we got paid maternity leave and then everything would make sense.
Girls if you don't mind me asking... how much was the STD with Aflac??
