Success after IF

falling asleep while pumping

ok, who else has fallen asleep while pumping? (or bfing or bottle feeding) These middle of the night pumping sessions often lead to spilled milk and low output b/c I keep nodding off. I've tried listening to music, having all the lights on, even reading a magazine. Sometimes I nod off during the day too if I haven't had my nap yet. My supply is still strong so I'm not worried about the occasional bad pumping session. Any suggestions, short of my husband sitting next to me and poking me awake??

  • I turned on my laptop and checked in on Facebook, read through posts here and started blog posts.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • No advice, but I know that in the early days BFing/pumping made me super tired (as if I wasn't tired enough just having a newborn) so I often came close to falling asleep while both nursing and pumping. Hopefully your body will get used to it!

And you definitely have three adorable babies!!! I love the picture!

  • again- no advice but I love the fuzzy heads!
  • As much as I hated to do it, I put my pump in my family room and physically got out of bed to pump. Getting out of bed woke me up enough to stay awake during the session. I would turn on the TV and watch everything I DVR'd.
It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.

  • Hi there, no suggestions; just wanted to join the ranks of "me too" ... this happened to me over and over.  The worst was when it would happen at work ... I'd be locked away in my windowless storage room and would wake up totally disoriented, thinking I had been there all day and it was now the middle of the night!  Yikes, imagine if that had been true!  I started to set the alarm on my cell phone so I could take a quick nap if my body wanted to and not worry about spending the whole day hooked up to the pump while my co-workers wondered where I had disappeared to.
