Ceiling fan vs Chandelier?

I'm trying to decide between a ceiling fan and a chandelier for our baby girl's room. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions or opinions for one vs the other?? Thanks!

Re: Ceiling fan vs Chandelier?

  • I would go with a ceiling fan because they say air flow is important in preventing SIDS.  Plus it's more useful.  =)

  • I've read that a ceiling fan reduces the risk of SIDS so we'll be sticking with a ceiling fan.
  • i have a ceiling fan, my psychology prof. told us that having a fan on in the nursery when bb is sleeping helps reduce the risk of SIDS, and we think it is better for the long run to have a fan in the room. so i decided to make a sparkly pretty, mobile for over her crib

have you thought about doing a ceiling fan, and then a smaller pretty chandelier to hang over the crib or changing table as a mobile??

  • We are doing a ceiling fan based off the same things people already said before. We are going to do a nice mobile to dress the room up. GL!

This.  Also, I'm cheap and I don't like to run the a/c unless it is really hot.

  • Okay, so DH and I are both nurses and understand air flow is important and all, but why ceiling fan vs floor fan or some other kind of fan? I'm wanting to get all our facts straight first before making the final decision. Chandeliers look so beautiful, and the #1 key to preventing SIDS is "back to sleep".?
  • We're going with Chandelier...both DH and I hate ceiling fans. I have yet to find one I think is attractive. That said, airflow is important so we are sticking with a floor fan in DD room. This way we can tuck it away and no one has to see it haha.
  • Don't quote me because being a RN you should know better than I, but I believe the air flow issue is relevant mostly if you're using bumpers because they create the cocoon like area in the crib and CO2 builds up around the baby.  A ceiling fan is supposed to disperse that.  But if you're not using bumpers a floor fan is probably fine. Just from what I understand...

  • We have a cute white fan that will stay, if we have a girl we'll put a chandelier somewhere else in the room.  I've always preferred a fan in my room and we were surprised at how many nice/stylish ones are out on the market right now - we just updated 2 in our house.

  • We did a fan because when the child is older they can put a finger in the floor fan.  I also prefer not to buy tons pf differant lights for one bedroom it seems like a waste of money to me.
  • We are putting up a chandelier, I've always wanted one if I was having a girl.  I do, however, plan on using a floor fan for her!  Best of both!!
  • Yes

  • We already have a chandalier we added a couple of months ago to our nursery.  We plan on having LO sleep in her PNP for the first 2-3 months in our room, which we have a ceiling fan in our master anyway.  When she goes to her nursery, I plan on having a floor fan.  We will take out her decorative bumper and use a breathable bumper, and we live in TX so we run the a/c too.  I like the idea of putting away a floor fan once she is old enough and SIDS is no longer a threat.  Then we have her beautiful chandalier in her room.
