Ameda vs Medela

So I've been trying to decide which breast pump to get and I was going with the Medela Advanced all the way since that was the one everyone seemed to talk about and the only one I've really heard of. Before purchasing it yesterday, I decided to do some research and it seemed like the Ameda Purely Yours got much better over all reviews and it was a bit cheaper, so I decided to get that one with the backpack. Does anyone else have this one? What do you think?

Re: Ameda vs Medela

  • I havent heard anything about the Ameda. I bought the medela pump in style. All my friends used this brand and it worked great for them.

  • I have the Medela brand and it worked great. I'm using it again for this baby.
  • I'm leaning toward the Ameda Purely Yours just in the tote bag, not the backpack.  I found it for $180 with free shipping on ebay (new).  The Ameda is a lot less known, but everything I've read on it makes me think it's a better deal.  Plus, there's no chance for milk to back up into the motor with the Amedas, but it's a possibility with the Medelas.

I think this question gets asked pretty often over on the Breastfeeding board.  You could look there for opinions too.

  • I'm using the Ameda (backpack) because my sister used it and is lending it to me. She had a great experience with it and so I trust her input.

  • I have the Medela PISA from DC#1 and it worked great for me and plan to use it again this time.
  • I can't give feedback on it since I haven't used it yet, but I selected the Ameda Purely Yours after much research.  It is a closed system compared to the Medala's open system.  That was important to me.  It also gets very high reviews.

  • I used the Ameda PY's with DS 3 years ago & loved it.  I liked how I could control the suction (although I mostly kept it high) & that it was a closed system.  I would highly recommend it!
  • Thanks for the input ladies! I appreciate it :-)
  • I have the Ameda, picked because it's a closed system and because you can vary the pumping rate and suction independently.  I've been extremely happy with it.
