My Poor Constipated Baby

DS hasn't pooped in a day and a half. How long have you waited to contact the pedi? I feel so bad for him, grunting and pushing :(

    If you're concerned, just call now.  I know that at that age E was still pooping at nearly every feeding.

    We are dealing with constipation. The pedi suggested trying 1/4 to 1/2 oz of prune juice once a day. So far, it's worked like a charm.

    Is he formula fed or BF? If he's BF, I'd call the doctor. If he's formula fed, that's normal. Our LO will go 1-2 days before pooping (he's FF). Some babies go numerous times a day, some go 3-5 days. I was worried the other day because DS hadn't gone in a day+ either, but he eventually went that night.

    Their intestinal tract is so immature at this point it is still figuring out how to work. If he is BF then it is very rare for a BF baby to be constipated.  FF babies can go 3 or 4 days without a poopie. 

    Squirming and grunting are not signs of constipation perse, but hard clay-like poops are. 

    When your LO finally goes if it is soft then he wasn't really constipated, but just trying to work the kinks out. Stick out tongue
