Painful urination after labor, but not UTI -- anyone else?

It's been about a week and a half since labor (vaginal delivery) and over the last 3 days or so, it has been somewhat painful when I urinate. It only hurts at the opening and only about half the time. My doc had me do a urine analysis to see if I have a UTI or bladder infection and it came back negative. I'm waiting for a return call from him, but I thought I'd see if anyone else is having this symptom shortly after giving birth?

  • I did have it sting when I urinated at about 5 weeks PP. This was because I had a couple stitches open up. The stinging was the urine hitting the open wound.

  • I had a c-section but the 4th day after it I had painful senstation when I peed. I thought I had a UTI or a bladder infection so I told the nurses and they tested and it came back negative... needless to say it went away in a few days.. I'm not sure what caused it and I never brought it up at my follow up appointment.

  • I had pain during urination and was told it was not a UTI also.  I also had stiches but that is not what was causing my pain - never did find out what it was.  It cleared up after a couple of weeks (long time I know).

  • Yes, I had this also. I had a c-section and cathetor (sp) which caused pain/soreness when urinating. I'm 2 weeks pp and still have some soreness but not nearly as much as I did those first few days.

  • I had pain from the catheder

  • I am ten weeks out and I still have pain when I pee.  I went back to the doc at four weeks and they did a pee test to test for infection and it was negative.  I was in so much pain I was crying and the doc was a jerk.  At the six week appointment I got to see the midwife and asked her about the pain.  She checked out some stuff down there and said everything looked fine (as far as that was concerned at least) and maybe the catheter had caused some damage.  When I went back at 8 weeks I was still having the pain and she is baffled.  I have since discovered that the pain has nothing to do with me peeing but it is positional.  When I kick the covers off fast with one leg, it hurts, when I spread my legs too far apart while playing on the floor with the baby it hurts, on the toilet the pressure of having nothing supporting the pelvis hurts.  I think there is something wrong with my pelvis.  Check to see if yours is more positional than just when you pee and it might help you give your doc better information.  I know right now it is hard to tell where the pain is coming from down there but as you heal it will be easier to distinguish!!  Hope that helps, sorry if I confused you more, message me if you have questions!
  • It could be pain from the catheter, an opened stitch, or teeny tiny "microtears"--all are very normal.  Keep using your peribottle when you pee!  Not only will it help it not hurt so bad, but it will also keep the area clear of urine, which can just cause more inflammation (it's a very basic ph, like ammonia).  And Dermoplast spray afterwards is fantastic--they even make an antiseptic version to keep away infection.
