High-Risk Pregnancy

are the progesterone shots really working?

this  coming tuesday will be my 7th shot and im just wondering if their worth it. I had a HR pregnancy with my first daughter and two miscarriages after that. Im pregnant with my second daughter and started these shots at about 18 weeks....I get contractions and headaches...not that im blaming it on the shots...but i read up and some mothers are still going in early labor. So are the shots really worth it?

  • i absolutely believe in them. i still contract on them but my cervix didn't start changing until last week. with ds that started at 24wk from all of my contracting.

from what i read they have about a 40% success rate and the way i saw it, those were pretty good odds, especially considering the difference that days in the womb can make for a preemie. for that, i'll take any side effects nececssary.

I think they are helping my cervix - not so much my contractions.

I have been on them since 15 weeks and had a big contraction scare this past weekend.  After 2 days of having anywhere form 5-9 contractions an hour, my cervix never shortened one bit.  My Peri thinks the prog. shots are helping with that.

  • I think they work.  I finished my shots last week.  Now that I'm full term I want to dilate or make SOME progress.  I haven't made any, I'm still only 1cm dilated.  My OB scheduled me for an induction at 39 weeks.

  • I agree with everyone, I think they work.  My cervix measured .7mm last check at 28 weeks and I'm still pregnant. No cerclage.
  • thanks ladies...its one thing to hear it from the doctors..but its excellent to hear it from ladies who are actually going through it! Ill think ill stick with them!
