Hypothetically....

If you were about 5' 9" and medium to small frame how much would you want to weigh? I know there are charts but eh I want to hear what the masses think?

I personally would like to lose20-25 lbs  however I am not officially out of the normal range just at the very high end. Do you think ALLI would work?

Re: Hypothetically....

  • I'm 5'8" and my goal is 135ish.  Not sure if that helps you or not though.  I've heard good and bad things about Alli.  I'm the "eat right and exercise" type though.  Granted I haven't been eating as right or exercising as much as I should be or I'd be at my goal ;)

  • I am 5'9" and I am happy at 150, thrilled at 140, and people get concerned at 135.  I am now about 145, which is comfortable.  After DD was born, I got down to 130 and do not think it was a good thing.   I was pretty fit until the last 4 or 5 months when I have had a herniated disc that is causing me not to be able to exercise much (I can just do the recumbent bike, walk and swim, but only on my back and not any of those for more than 20 minutes a day.)

  • So my past norm was 135. That is where I want to be.  I was125 before kids which was awesome but too much work to maintain.  I am now in the 150 area which for me is HORRIBLE.  I hate looking at myself.  I realize I am eating like crap but I am hungry all the time and exhausted all the time so I know how I got to where I am.   Anyone find when they gain weight they started having night sweats?  I have this happening a lot lately and its never happened before.
  • Like you said, there is a huge range of normal, but for a small or medium frame, I would say 135-140.  Everyone carries weight differently though, so that is even debatable.

I have heard good and bad about ALLI, but I really don't know enough about it to give you an educated opinion on it!

I may be thinking of someone else, but didn't you just start taking the pill?  For me, hormonal fluctuations cause me to have night sweats.    Maybe that could be contributing?

You are not that far away from your norm, so try not to be so critical of yourself!  They say you eat more when you're tired, so I would try to concentrate on getting more sleep and feeling rested and then evaluate things from there.

Disclaimer:  I'm not sure I should be giving any weight loss or healthy lifestyle advice.  I am so unmotivated lately and have been eating like total crap.

  • yes I started the pill 3mths ago.
  • Eh, what do I know?  I just read this:

Can birth control pills cause night sweats?

Generally they do not do this but the only way to tell for sure is to stop them for a cycle. Progestins can raise the basal body temperature slightly so I don't want to say absolutely that they don't.

More likely culprits are: room temperature is warmer than you are used to, increased evening meal/calories, ingestion of substances that vasodilate (alcohol, medications, hot peppers, caffeine). Medical problems include low grade fevers, hyperthyroidism.

  • I bet it is the calorie intake.  I am eating like cow at night.  If only I had hyperthyrodism I wouldn't be writing these posts :)
  • I'm 5'4", and my lowest in really great shape weight was 132-135 lbs. That put me between a size 4-6.

At 5'9" I'd say around 145-155 lbs would be good, probably on the higher end of that. A size 8-10 would be a good size for that height (imo).
