Baby not a fan of the bassinet!

My baby is about 10 days old and so far since I've been home from the hospital, I've been propped up on pillows at night having him sleep on my chest. The little guy will not go down in the bassinet after a feeding and a changing. I've tried using one of those toys that makes sounds of the ocean, and I've tried rocking the bassinet. Someone told me to buy a baby wedge. Anyone found a solution that works?

I swaddled and used a wedge....worked wonderfully.

Most babies don't like to be alone for the first few weeks.  Google the fourth trimester and it will explain why he wants to be held.  It really is a physical and psychological need. 

My daughter is 8 weeks old and just started at about 6 weeks sleeping in her bassinet for 3 or 4  hour stretches.  When she isn't in her bassinet we bed share and she is just fine.

Yep... the swing. It's still the only place DS will sleep for more then 15 minutes.

We had the same problem and we also had to switch to the swing.  It was definitely the solution for us!

we had the same problem with our son until we put him in the bassinet that my mom had at her house. it was a soft one and he would always sleep in it. we decided it was the softness that kinda cradled him so he felt more like he was being held. so that night i put a down pillow in his bassinet (the wooden kind) and he will now alway sleep in it because he sinks into the pillow some. always swadled and on his back so it's perfectly safe but it made all the difference. if you have a down pillow at home try that. before the little pad/mattress that was in it was just too firm.
