Trying to Get Pregnant

OPK pee cup question

I just used my first OPK. FF says I ovulated, but I'm not really sure I did. Figured I'd try one, fully expecting a negative and it was.

But my real question.....I noticed the instructions said to use a glass or plastic cup. Of course I bought paper cups to just trash afterward.

So...what do you all use for your OPKs? Now that I've used one, I'm thinking I might just use a regular plastic cup and reuse it. Not sure which is grosser, rinsing out a pee cup and saving it for the next time or putting a peed-in cup in the bathroom trash (yeah, I guess I'm oogied out by pee, and I know that DH is also).

Re: OPK pee cup question

  • I have a little plastic cup that I just use as a pee cup. I wash it afterwards and put it under the sink in the bathroom.

Where would you put the cup if not in the trash can?

    me too!

  • I use a little plastic measuring cup (I never bake so it's never been used - lol) and just wash it out to use again.  I keep it under the bathroom sink.

LOL, the trashcan, I guess! Or the dog's poop bin out back? I don't know, I just hadn't thought about it, and I just didn't want a cup with pee residue sitting in the trash can until I empty it. Confused Maybe that's weird. But bodily fluids eek me out. I need to just get used to it....I think I'll get myself a reusable plastic one.

I never think about it.  I guess it is kind of gross.  I might have to switch to the reusable. It's the "greener" side of pee cups.

If you can't have a "greener" pee cup when can you?!

  • I too just use a plastic cup that I rinse out. I think it is gross, so I throw it away after each cycle. I do have to ask though, where to you put your AF materials if not in the bathroom trash? I think that is more gross than a pee cup, but maybe that's just me. We empty our bathroom garbage a couple times a week.

  • I use small dixie cups and have never had any issues getting a positive or anything.  After I dump the pee I rinse it by filling it and dumping the water in the toilet so it doesn't smell like pee.

I guess I'm just so used to putting AF materials in the trash. I flush tampons, so it's just the applicators. And I wrap those with big bunches of TP, so I can pretend they're not there.

Better get used to it before you have a baby! Wink

Oh I know it. It's funny, I don't mind others' bodily fluids (I work in special education, the amount of pee, poop, drool, snot, spitup that I come into contact with is insane). Guess it's just my own. Yes, I know it's weird.

  • I had a wondering this morning along the same lines.  I just bought a box of OPKs to start using with my next cycle and it came with one little plastic cup.  I was wondering about rinsing and reusing and whether my Dial would leave a residue or if rinsing was good enough?

Oh, the things I find to spend my time thinking about...

  • I pee in a little dixie cup, rise it out when done and throw it in the garbage. I don't want to keep a cup I pee in.

  • I have plastic "dixie" cups.  I rinse one out and use it for one cycle then toss it.

    FYI - pee is sterile.

I use the same little plastic cups.  I pee, test, dump the pee in the toilet, rinse out the cup and throw it in the trash.  Not too difficult.
