I am a teacher & my 12 week FML would go to summer break so I wouldn't have to pay for my insurance in full and wouldn't have to go back that school year, it'd just take me straight through August!
I have to go back 5 weeks to end the school year and had to pay $1800 for insurance to stay home longer than the 12 weeks (went on bedrest for 6 weeks before DS was born)
I would love an early summer baby, like the first week of June. I had DS in January (in Wisconsin), so we obviously couldn't take walks or do anything outside.
It would have been nice for him to have been born in a warmer month because our house isn't very big and it's going to be hard to do birthdays at our house until we move to a bigger place. BUT we also have a lot of summer birthdays in the family, so I'm pretty happy with him being born in February : )
ETA: If his birthday was in a warmer month we could host it in our backyard or a park or something!
I'm really happy I had my DD in April (just a week ago). This year, the weather has been extremely warm - however, you never know around here. Some years it snows and others it is like summer. But usually if it is snowy, it's going away and spring days are mixed in.
I had DD in January which was nice because I was soooooo HOT during the last trimester. I actually had the air conditioning on at one point. I dont think I would make it through the summer. I think March or April would be almost perfect. I couldnt take DD out of the house for a while since it was so cold out.
Her being born in mid March was perfect (even if there are a lot of March babies in our family already). I didn't have to be huge during the summer months in Texas and she wasn't born in the middle of flu/RSV season, but rather at the very end. I think we'll shoot for March/April again next time.
I actually think Feb. worked out pretty well because
holidays were over (easier to eat healthy post-partum and no stress of where to go with baby, etc)
winter was coming to an end, so we had plenty of stay in and snuggle winter days, but broken up with beautiful spring days to go on walks
she'll be easier, eating & sleeping better during summer when I'll want to be out and not stuck inside with a newborn
This. We got to hibernate when DD wasn't sleeping regularly, and right around the time that she started getting into more of a rhythm and STTN, I started to feel better, too, and the weather got warmer. So a February baby or March would be great next time. Also, as pp said, a teacher's work year really lends itself well to this sort of timing.
Nicholas was born at the end of January, which was great. Here in Houston, it wasn't too cold, and it definitely wasn't hot yet. Actually, right now it's not that hot either. Also, all of his "1st" will be in the same year. Well, except for his 1st b-day, of course.
I had my son in mid May. It worked perfectly for me because I was pregnant all winter, not during any of the hot months, and DS was born right as it was starting to get warmer outside. I would hate to have a baby in the middle of winter because its hard to bring them anywhere. He was also born the day before Mothers Day, which was the best Mothers day present ever.
DD was just born the end of March, and Im happy with that time period as well. I had bad morning sickness in August when it was extremely hot and muggy though and that sucked. It has been a warm and early spring this year though so we have been able to be outside with her and that is nice.
Re: Just for fun, a poll/question
I'm a teacher, so we were trying for April, May, or June. I had her early in March, which was perfect timing for school!
Next time, we'll try for the same 3 months because I'd rather be gone at the end of the school year than beginning or middle.
Mid-March

Any month but August, we have 12 close family members all with August birthdays and some with early September birthdays.
