Umbilical cord

LO's umbilical cord is starting to fall off and I noticed some blood on his onesie -

should I keep him out of onesies for now and just put him looser gowns? I feel so bad for him!

Re: Umbilical cord

  • Don't worry about it - that's normal and it doens't hurt him.  However, you're not supposed to use the onesies that snap under the crotch until the cord falls off - you're supposed to use the side snap shirts.  That said, it sounds like he's about to lose it any day now so I wouldn't buy new shirts.

I wasn't told this and have been using the crotch snap onesies for LO without difficulty. Why shouldn't they be used?

No one told us not to use crotch snap onsies/clothes. We even had him in crotch snap outfits in the hospital and no one said anything about it. Same goes for front snap clothes, which I would think might me the ones you would want to aviod, but again, no one said anything to us about that! We don't have any side snap clothes for DS.
