Multiples

Twins?

Hi guys!

I just conceived after a loss last year.  Twins run in my and my husband's family.  I have noticed that this time around I am MUCH more sick and for a longer amount of time- 24 hours, actually.  I also I am exhausted by the end of the day and end up taking a nap for at least an hour, sometimes two.  The thing is I am only SIX WEEKS!!  Last time I didn't get sick til around 8 weeks and it wasn't this bad.

Did you guys find this to be true with your multiple births?  I am not having a sonogram until 10 weeks.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

TIA!

Lauren

Re: Twins?

  • I was just more tired with the twins.  I actually didn't get sick at all, I just didn't have much of an appetite.

Wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy!  : )

  • I was more sick with the twins than with my singleton, but I wasn't sick enough that it would have made me think I was having twins.  I still had it easier than some moms carrying 1.

Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is an u/s.

I'm sorry for your loss, and congrats on the BFP!

  • Congrats on your pregnancy! I was nauseated starting at 3w6d with my twins, but I don't have a singleton pregnancy to compare it to. You really can't tell how many babies you're carrying by symptoms--there are women on here whose singleton pregnancies were harder on them than their multiples pregnancies--but it *might* be an indication. Hopefully you can have a u/s soon to find out for sure!

  • There is only 1 way to find out - a sonogram.

M/S is no indication of mulitiples - I have zero nausea (sorry girls) while my friends who were pregnant with singletons threw up every hour of every day.

  • congratulations on your pregnancy, no matter how many you have in there!

it's generally believed that multiples on the husband's side doesn't change your chances of having them, just so you know.

but good luck and who knows, maybe we'll see you back here at some point!

  • I didn't have much morning sickness at all, it really isn't an indicator of multiples.  Your chances are increased if fraternal multiples run on your side, identicals are a fluke.  It doesn't matter what your husband has in his family, as he can't make you release more than one egg or cause your egg to split.

Congrats on your BFP and hope you have a healthy pregnancy.

  • Congrats on your pregnancy!!

Unfortunately the sickness isn't necessarily an indicator. With my DS I was sick from before my missed period and BFP (it was something that led me to believe I was PG in the first place, since we weren't trying).

With the twins, I got sick, but not until about 7 weeks.

And the m/s was different each time. With DS it was just like an all day nausea, but not usually any actual vomitting. With the twins, it didn't happen all day, everyday, but when it did I was SICK.

So, really, it all means nothing :).

    Congrats though!!!

  • Congrats on your BFP!

I was very sick with DD (singelton) and not sick at all with the boys. I have heard that sometimes girls can make people more sick but that could be a myth.

  • Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I wasn't sick (stomach sick) really at all with my pregnancy- I am pregnant with twin girls.

I think you'll get split answers- many that were really sick and had twins, and many that weren't at all.  My girlfriends that had singleton pregnancies were much more sick than I was my first trimester.

  • I can't compare my twin pregnancy to a singleton, but I really didnt have bad m/s at all.  I had waves of nausea but never got sick.  I was tired but didnt consider it to be extreme.  You never know!

  • Nope.  I was pg with triplets at first and I never puked and never had to nap or go to bed early.

  • I was much much more tired with twins and have had 2 previous singleton pregnancies. I was also much more big with the twins very early on and could feel flutters much earlier. M/S was the exact same though. Had I even thought I had a chance of having twins the signs were all there. At my first appt. my uterus measured 18 wks. along but I was only 11 wks. so my Dr. suspected it right before we had the U/S to confirm it.

  • I have no other pregnancy to compare to, but I have zero m/s (sorry ladies) and my appetite is quite normal. The only symptoms I have are super sore boobs and I'm pretty tired, but even the exhaustion factor has gotten much better this week. Congrats on your BFP, but only your u/s can determine the multiples factor.

  • My m/s started 3 days before I got my BFP and with my DD it didn't start until 8 weeks, so it has definitely been worse.  I haven't been as tired, but that is probably because I have a toddler to chase so I don't have time to be tired.  I found out at 5wks 3 days that I was having twins..  I went in for an u/s cause I was having a lot of cramping.  We then had a follow up u/s at 7 weeks and saw two hbs and babies were measuring well.
  • Hey there. I was so freaking ill that my doctor was joking that it might be twins - turns out she was right!

I was exhausted ( at 4 weeks! ) and sick as a dog up until about 2 weeks ago.

However, heightened pregnancy symptoms are not generally a good indication of multiples, the only way to really find out is to get an ultrasound.

    Good luck with your pregnancy!
