I just got back from my doctor's appt (36 week) and am being allowed to decide when to stop taking my procardia. I can either quit on Friday or I can wait until 37 weeks. I really don't think that I will go into labor since the contractions have not made me progress much. I am most likely going to wait until closer to 37 weeks to ensure that the baby is full term, but how did labor progress if you were a past user of procardia or other medication to stop contractions?
I still have contractions even with medication, but not as bad as without the medication. Seems like my body has gotten used to the medication the longer that I take it. I have been taking it since 25 weeks and have had to increase the dosage quite often. Any similar experiences?
Re: Procardia users
With first pregnancy, I took procardia and terbutaline. I stopped meds at 36 wks and nothing happened. I ended up being induced at 40w3d. This time around, I notice an increase in contractions when the dose starts to wear off so it might be earlier than later with this LO.
However, I have heard tales of folks stopping the meds and 24 hours they are in full-blown labor and have their babies. For this reason, to stay on the safe side I'll likely wait till 37 wks so he'll be 'term."
I was on procardia from 28-33wks. Stopped working for me, now on terbutaline. Ob group's policy is to stop all PTL meds at 36 weeks. I am supposed to go off tomorrow. I asked though to stay on them until the following Monday b/c my sis would be out of town. OB said it was fine, just no measures to stop labor if I go to l&d. I have enough meds, I think I too am going to wait until 37 weeks. The longer he bakes, I think the better. He will be here soon enough. I am interested to see how you do ( and me- I have an inkling he may camp out until the end.
My feeling is that I will make it to my due date too! It just funny to worry about labor from 25 weeks and have so much time thinking you are a ticking bomb.
Good luck to you. I am glad to hear that your doctor told you 36 weeks as well. After last night I am really thinking of continuing until the last possible moment. The contractions are starting to wake me up and that is with the medication to stop them.
Just lurking but wanted to let you know that I went into labor the day after I stopped procardia - 26 hours later to be exact. DS was born 13 hours later. I had not progressed at all prior to that and also contracted while on procardia.
