EP mamas - sore nipples?

I have a question for exclusive pumpers...

My nipples are sore to the touch and have 1/2 inch reddish pink rings around them where they get pulled into the pump. 

I'm tired of being sore all the time Does this happen normally?  If so, does it go away after a while?  I've been at this for 3+ weeks now.  Thanks!

I pump and BF but I do get sore nipples after pumping. I'm not sore at all after BF. Right now I only pump once a day sometimes twice. I go back to work in three weeks and I'll be pumping a lot more. I hope the soreness goes away.

Do you need to get larger breast shields for the pump?

I've been EP for about 3 weeks, too, and I found that my nipples are more sore when I set my pump on a higher level or when I pump every two hours, as opposed to three. I also have the pinkish rings around them..it sucks. But at least I know I'm not alone! Hopefully our nips will get used to it after a while

I EBF and usually pump about once a day and I've noticed I'm sore afterwards. I usually put the Medela nipple cream on afterwards and it feels much better. I tried lansinoh but it isn't as soft and almost hurt to rub it on. Medela has worked well for me.

Thanks all - it sounds like it's par for the course.  I'm glad I'm not the only one. 

I do have the larger breast shields...I almost think that's contributing to the soreness because more of my areola gets pulled into the pump.  Also, I pump 8-12 times a day on a high setting, so I'm sure that's contributing.

i pump about 3-4 times per day and breastfeed (and she comfort sucks alot)...so needless to say my nipps are going thru it. i definitely think its par for the course.

Yep me too. And they hurt when I shower and I bump them.... they always seem to be sticking out.

I EP and yes my nipples are sore but it gets better.  I have been pumping now for 3 months and it is difficult but, if you can work through it it will improve.  PM me if you need anything.

To answer your question:  my nipples are always tender right after pumping but it quickly fades.
