RP: Any tips on bottle brands or how to get my DD to take a bottle?

I am EBF my DD, but I need her to take an occasional bottle when I am not available (maybe 1 to 2 times per week).  She is flat-out refusing to take a bottle, and I have an event I have to attend this weekend.  It kills me to think of her home with her grandmother screaming because she won't take a bottle!  I've tried the bottle that comes with my Medela pump, Breastflow by First Years, and Avent, all to no avail.  Any suggestions on other bottles that breastfed babies might prefer?  Or any other tips on how to get her to take a bottle?  Today I tried to get her to take it for 30 minutes and finally caved when she wouldn't stop screaming and let her BF.  Thank in advance for any tips you have.

  • my friend who was EBF introduced me to Playtex ventaire...the wide bottles, they represent the breast and works like a charm even for non BF moms! WE love them!

  • We used Born Free and she had no issues - plus I think it has a wide neck, which is supposed to be like a breast nipple.

Hope it helps! My baby likes Dr. Browns and switches between the breast and bottle without a problem, but it did take practice

  • I recently went through a similar situation with DS.  After trying a couple of different bottles, we found one that works for us: Tommee Tippee from BRU.  Also, instead of using the slow flow nipple that it came with, I bought a pack of the variable flow and he will take these (won't take slow flow).  He is a pretty fast nurser, so I think the slow flow just wasn't cutting it and he was getting frustrated.  Good luck to you!

  • I'm EBF, but my son has taken a bottle since week one from Daddy, grandma and even me. We've tried a few kinds but the Evenflo Purely Comfi seem to work best - less gas and less leakage. GL!
  • We're BF and supplementing with pumped breast milk since my LO wasn't gaining enough at first.  We've been using Tommee Tippee bottles since week three and have not had a single issue switching from bottle to breast...I was majorly stressed about that.  GL!
