My LO is 6 weeks and gets up every three hours or so to eat. I'm reading posts of other LO's the same age sleeping through the night. Tell me your secret!! Cause i dont think i'll ever sleep again!! LOL!!
The last few nights only has my LO started to sleep longer and honestly, I am not sure what is making him do that other than he is just getting older. I let him take a nap, no longer than an hour, around 7 or 8pm, wake him, bathe him, nurse him and put him down swaddled and he is out. Last night as 7 hours! Good luck. I thought for sure I would never get more than 4 hours of sleep in a row again.
Try white noise and swaddling but the bottomline is that every baby is different. DS #1 was a horrible sleeper for the first 5 months. DS #2 seems a little better but it's too early to tell yet.
We have some nights where he still eats at 3 hour intervals, but in the last week or so, he's started going 4-5 hours... have no idea why, nothing's different as far as I can tell.
Swaddling prevented her from punching herself in the face and waking up as a pissed off baby. She still woke to eat, though. We started swaddling at about 3.5 weeks and she was STTN at 5.5 weeks.
Definitely give it more time! On this board, a lot of moms seem lucky enough to have young babies that STTN but I don't think this is the norm. We noticed our LO sleeps better with a "routine" which is a consistent bedtime (9 pm), starting with a bath at 8 pm, massage, story/prayers, feeding, swaddling then swing. Now that she's almost 3 months old, she has started STTN more consistently.
Re: How do ya'll do that?
DD sleep improved a lot once I started using the swaddle sacks.
Ditto the swaddling! Helped a TON! DD still gets up once a night sometimes, but it's much better than every 2-3 hours!
Our DS sleeps really well at night and has for a while now. I think it's this combo:
1. We are super lucky and got a baby who likes to sleep at night
2. We're consistent in our routine
3. We use the miracle blanket to swaddle (this REALLY helped a lot)
4. We play a CD of crickets chirping (that will play for an hour and a half)
5. He naturally eats almost every hour between 5pm and 8pm (when he goes to sleep), so cluster feeding
These days he's sleeping from about 8pm until 5 or 6am
Good luck!
