Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Any other nurses here?

I'm a registered nurse since 2008 but I've only worked in a hospital for 1 month and 3 weeks. I got pregnant and I was nauseous all. the. time.

I had to quit my job because the 1st trimester was too hard on me. But DD is two months old now and I'd love to get back to work soon. Anyway, I'd love to hear from other nurses on here.

I also realized that even though we're medically inclined, we still get confused when it comes to our LOs. =)

  • Present! So true about that last part. Both DH (hes a physician) and I work with critically ill adults. If either of us had heart failure or was septic, we'd be all over it, but babies?!? Foreign territory!
  • Not an RN YET! I put in the application for nursing school in December. I have another year or so to wait to be accepted. Hence the reason we got PG with DS...

  • I'm not a nurse but I see the second part with my MIL all the time. She's the head nurse at the ER at a very big hospital and she takes 2 huge classes a year down in Florida so I assumed since she's been doing it for 33 years she has to know everything so I always go to her for advice on LO and sometimes she doesn't know... Like when my baby was born with hip dysplasia.. she had no idea what that was or how it was treated..

  • I'm an OR nurse, mostly only adults, but occasionally I do have NICU babies. Totally agree on the last part, although I remember some stuff from school, I think it just makes me more inclined to freak out over nothing.

I'm an OR nurse also.  I used to see quite a few babies in the OR.  But at my current hospital, they are a rare commodity.  So, I feel completely lost with my own baby.  I actually did Newborn nursery/post partum my first year as an RN, but was still terrified to bath my own baby :-)
