Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is this normal? (poop question)

My baby has at least one (usually 2) explosive bowel movements a day, where it seeps out of the diaper and messes up whatever he's sitting on.  The diapers aren't holding it in, and it often goes up his back within seconds.  He seems like he tries to go all day, and then it comes out in one huge poop.  Does that happen with your babies, or do I need to contact his pediatrician again?  He's exclusively breastfed and we've been having a lot of issues with food sensitivities, etc.

Thanks.

  • We've had the same over the last 4 days.  He's also having a lot of pain from gas.

  • My little guy does the same thing!  It is a normal thing, but very frustrating.  We are currently trying out different diapers to see if we can find ones that hold all his poo in.

  • Yep, DS does this too!! He grunts & pushes for a good while before an "explosion" lol generally he poops after he eats!

We just switched to size 2 in diapers. We haven't had any come out since switching.

  • Thanks.  He seems happy after he does it.  Even gives me a big smile- haha.  He's also gaining weight, but I do worry.  A lot of his poop looks like diarrhea to me, but I have to keep reminding myself that all he's eating is fluid.

  • OMG it was horrible with DD! She had them daily...more than once a day for months. Finally they got better. I don't know what diapers you use...but we tried EVERY BRAND out there and when it's all said and done...Pampers wins big time. Also, sometimes when they leak often you may need a different size. Just a thought.

Thanks for responding.  We use Pampers too.  He is currently in a size one.  The size 2's make him leak out the legs right now,  I think he may be between sizes.  Too big for 1's and too small for 2's.
