Baby Names

Same name?

This is completely hypothetical.

I was thinking of naming my girl (if we have one) Layla Rae.  But i also love the name Rachel.  If i have second girl and name her Rachel would that be weird since Rae is derived from Rachel?  Would that be like naming my two children the same thing?  Or do i just have way too much time too think about this?

Haha please humor me.  TIA

  • they aren't the same. and if one is a middle and the other a first name, then it REALLY doesn't matter.

  • Well, it's a little redundant but I don't think it's a big deal.  Plus it gives them a little connection through their names.

This. I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I definitely think you are over thinking it.

  • I think you could definitely use both. They're not too similar IMO.

  • Not too similar! I wouldn't use Rae and Rachel both as first names for sisters, but the way you described it is just fine.  Most people wouldn't even know that Rachel's sister's mn is Rae, and it is a cute connection between them without being exactly the same name.

  • Totally fine... now if you were naming them both Layla, then there's a problem.

I think someone was on here last week wanting to give her second son the same name as his older brother! Like, the exact name, because that was the only name she liked.
