Canon PowerShot or other camera recs

We're in the market for a new camera.  Nothing super fancy or expensive, but with a good shutter speed and quality for taking pictures of DS.  We are not looking at an SLR or anything like that, just a good old point and shoot.  We have a Flip, so we don't necessarily need one with a video component.

I've read good reviews for the Canon PowerShot - anyone have one of those?  Any other recommendations are appreciated.  We're hoping not to spend more than $300-$400.  TIA!

I have an older PowerShot, and I love it! It takes really nice pics, and has some manual settings as well, so you can play around a bit with it. I used it for all the pics in my etsy shop too. DH got it for me off CL, I think for $120.

We have this one and so does MIL. We just got it at Christmas time.

We picked up the Panasonic Lumix ZR1 a couple of weeks ago from Costco and it takes beautiful pictures. We did a lot of comparison shopping before we bought it.  Before that we had a canon sd800 that we loved but the newer canons images just aren't as crisp.

For Christmas I got the Cannon powershot Elph SD1200 IS.  It takes great pictures and takes them very quickly so that I do catch smiles and such that I wasn't catching before.  Don't get me wrong my DSLR is king but I keep the cannon in my purse and can whip it out whenever and take pics!

Oh also wanted to add that it takes really nice videos too!  For $150 this camera really is nice!

The Panasonic Lumix line is great. Very versatile and powerful.  Look for a camera with a wide angle lens.  It is a must for family events in tiny spaces.  Good luck finding your camera!

I have a Powershot I got about two years ago. I like it, I'm looking at DSLR's right now, but for a point and shoot, it's one of the best I've used.

We have the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 and love it. It takes gorgeous photos and the view screen on it is huge and clear. Has lots of helpful settings, and the zoom is incredible. It's got video (with sound) as well, which is really nice.
