My LO is six weeks old and eats 4oz of formula about every three hours(sometimes we can stretch it out to four) which he seems satisfied with so far but how will you know when to give them more each time? Does it depend on thier age?
I know to increase when he screams when he is finished with the bottle. It's obvious (from my LO) he's still hungry. I usually increase it by half an ounce because sometimes when I increase a whole ounce, he spits up a lot- my clue it's too much for his little tummy.
I think it's basically 2 to 2.5 times their weight. Although my LC did say that they max out between 4-6 oz per feeding, then eventually start decreasing the amount the take with the introduction of solid foods around 6 months.
My DD still only eats 4. You'll know when they need more for them acting hungry and fussy when their bottle is gone. We typically give her the bottle, and make another ounce if she wants it. Once she consistently finishes the extra ounce, we start making the original bottle with an extra ounce.
