Question about lactose free formula...

I pump but don't have enough to exclusively give DS bm so I have to give formula as well.  I started him on Similac Advance (when he was 5 weeks old) but it seemed to make him really gassy.  I noticed that if I had a lot of dairy that also seemed to make him gassy.  So, I started giving him Similac Sensitive Lactose Free.

He seems to have outgrown his gasiness and it doesn't matter what I eat now, nothing seems to bother him.  Should I switch back to regular formula?  I'm not sure if it's a problem for him to have lactose free if he doesn't actually have a lactose intolerance.  I don't want to create an allergy.  If I switch I want to do it before starting solids so that if there are any issues I will know it's the formula not solids.  Any advice?  I haven't talked to the Dr. about this, but I will bring it up at the next appointment.

Re: Question about lactose free formula...

  • I haven't tried the Lactose free, we switched from Similac Advance to Isomil Advance (soy) for the same reasons you mentioned. I wondered too if we should switch back and see if it was lactose intolerance or not. But things are going well, so I'm just leaving it for now. Sorry I'm not much help.
