Do I need a swivel wheel jogger?

I am debating on which double jogger to get.  I think it's going to be between the BOB duallie and the InStep Safari.  The InStep is cheaper, but I love my single BOB and know that I'll love a double.

I see only one BOB on Craigslist right now.  It's a Duallie, but it's the fixed wheel version.

I do plan on using this as my all the time stroller.  I haven't "driven" one of these, so I'm wondering how important the swivel wheel feature is.

Thoughts?

Re: Do I need a swivel wheel jogger?

  • For me, it was an essential feature b/c I wasn't using the stroller just for jogging/going in a relatively straight line.  The times when DS has "accidentally" locked the front wheel, the stroller, at least for me, is hard to navigate with b/c I have to use a lot more "lifting" to turn it.  The revolution part of the BOB is why I bought it, though...

If you're using it as your only stroller, I'd hold out for the revolution (think REI has their 20% off an item sale going on right now...)

  • for all the time, not just jogging, I'd go for a swivel/lock wheel.  I'd keep searching for a used bob with that option over buying the instep.   a friend has the bob and it's awesome.  another friend has the instep and says it's okay but she didn't outright recommend it when I was looking for recs.  she lives elsewhere, so I didn't get to play with it. maybe someone who has one can comment.  I test drove the baby trend double expedition jogger and it was terrible.  I had had the single and loved it... the double seemed very flimsy.  we have a phil and ted with doubles kit and love it.  my friend with the bob can fit 3 children on it.

  • Thanks Hooray!  That's the kind of thing I need to know.  I think it will be my only stroller.  I was going to sell my single on CL to get some cash to throw at the Duallie.  Those friggin things are expensive, even with the discount!
  • Yeah, they are crazy expensive, but I've been very happy with ours ( I do still use our single peg perego stroller, though, when I'm only out with DS#2).  So hard to find on craigslist, too b/c they're scooped up immediately (this is part of how I justified buying a new one - knowing I could resell it easily when the time came).

The best way I can describe the swivel vs. locked wheel difference in feel is like driving with power steering vs. regular - you can do it, but it's soooo much easier with the power steering (i.e., the swivel)

    :)

  • I hated my jogger with the fixed wheel and sold out. I'm currently on the CL hunt for a new one with a swivel wheel. Ideally I'd like to find one where the wheel can be fixed OR swivel, depending on what I am using it for.

Hi sum! IMO, it's a necessity. Do you know how hard you will have to push down to change direction on the front wheel with two kids in it?I have the revolution duallie and i have to push down pretty freaking hard to get it over a curb. I couldn't imagine having to do that every time i wanted to turn.
