Who are you inviting to baptism?

I'm obviously having LO's grandparents and the godparents, but I'm debating on whether or not to invite his aunts and uncles.  I thought I should host a light brunch at our house afterwards, but afraid of how many will accept the invitation.  He has 19 aunts and uncles and 17 first cousins, and if I invite all of them I'm pretty sure most of them will come.  And I'm really not excited about mixing my family and DH's...ugh.

I would really like to just keep it low-key, but don't want to hurt anyone's feelings either.  I just know that between the family dynamics, getting the house ready, planning food for that many people, and not to mention taking care of him, this lovely Sunday afternoon I was hoping for has the potential to be a disaster.

What are you planning for your LO's baptism?

Re: Who are you inviting to baptism?

  • We are keeping it super low key; just DH, my mom and my sweet girl.  We are not having anything afterward.  DH's family is atheist.

  • I wanted it low key but DH had other plans. Extended family and family friends are invited so we're expecting about 75 people.

  • We invited grandparents and my immediate family (i have 7 brothers and sisters) and our close friends that have been a part of her life since she was born. It was around 20 or 25 peopl
  • We are expecting about 30 people. That's just sticking to grandparents, us, sisters and brothers, and great aunts and uncles because we chose one set to be our dd's godparents. Our baptism is going to be outside in the St Croix River and we will be having a picnic after on our families land on the river. It's where my husband was baptized and he really wanted his kids to be as well so both DD who we waited a long time to baptize and ds will be done together. But dd will be fully emerged and ds will just have water over his head.

  • Family, grandparents and aunts/uncles. We wanted to keep it small and just having those brought it to 50 invites. It's too many but because we are Greek Orthodox, this is a big deal and all of my family expects to be there. Oh well.
