Re: how much time do you have off?

  • I'm fortunate enough to qualify for FMLA so I will get 12 weeks. One month is paid due to saving up PTO and a dear friend/coworker donating 40 hours of her emergency medical leave.

  • 6 wks here too.  Unless I have a c/s, then it's 8.

I agree, 6wks is NOT enough time to have with your baby!  The only thing helping me handle the thought is that my SIL will be watching the baby when I go back to work.  At least we'll know LO is in good hands with family

ETA: I qualify for the FMLA too but don't have any time (sick or va-k) to use & we can't afford for me to have it as unpaid leave

  • We only have what's mandated by FMLA, up to 12 weeks off unpaid and the option to use accrued paid time off.  I've hoarded up 4 weeks of sick time I'll use, then telework for 2 weeks before returning.  It's not in my family's best interest for me to make use of anything unpaid.

ETA:  Military is covered under FMLA, isn't it?

  • In Canada we get a 1 year maternity leave.  You get 55% of your pay for that year.  I feel very fortunate, b/c like you said, I could not imagine putting a 6 week old in day care.

  • 8 weeks because I will be having a c-section.

  • I'm lucky enough to have accumulated enough hours here in Canada to have a whole year off after baby is here with 55% of my pay. Whether I use it or not is a different story. If needed/wanted we can transer half that time to use as pat-leave if hubby wants to stay home with the baby instead. Those are our options.
  • I get 6 weeks paid and 6 more weeks unpaid which I am choosing to take because DH has been getting tons of overtime at his job and I really want to be able to bond with LO as much as possible before having to go back to work, plus I don't even have a babysitter picked out yet so I still have to worry about that.
  • 12 weeks off. 6 weeks pd 100% & 4 wks vacation time pd at 100%.  If LO is late I may have more vacation time saved up, but if not I'll take the last 2 weeks unpaid.  I feel lucky.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • I get the 12 weeks from FMLA + about 2 weeks paid.  Last day of work is May 14th and I return to work Monday after Labor Day!

  • I am allowed to use up to 20 sick days before and 20 sick days after. I am taking my 20 days and then using 6/7 days of the Family Leave Act. I am a teacher so I will have the summer off as well. I will go back to work in September.
    imageimageBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I qualify for 12 because of FMLA, but thanks to my great planning I will take 8 and then have the WHOLE SUMMER!!!!!  Or I may take 6 and then go back half time since my students won't be in school because they will have already graduated.  Woo Hoo!!!!!

  • I own my own business.  I was back at work 4 days pp for a few hours a week with DS.  I imagine it will be the same this time.

  • I get 4 1/2 blessed months (with 70-100% pay), thank you State of CA. 5 months if I have a c-section. Even still I'm devastated at the thought of putting him in daycare when I return.
  • I am having a c-section so i get 8 weeks of paid leave with up to 12 optional with the last 4 being unpaid. However my job put me out on disability in january so my pay has already been cut down to 60 percent and will stay that way until I return to work so I need to go back as soon as I can after the baby is born. That and my FMLA has already run out so there is nothing protecting my position besides the fact that it would be a huge PR nightmare if they fired me while out on disability due to pregnancy complications due to my job duties.
  • Just FMLA.  12 weeks unpaid unless you use your time.

I plan to use 8 weeks of vacation time so that I'm paid 100%.  I then plan to work 4 weeks of 3 days at home and 2 days in the office (again, at 100% pay.)

  • I get 6 week or 8 weeks if I have a c section. I'm covered under FMLA for the 12 weeks unpaid but can't afford to be out of work unpaid at all. It is sad having to leave LO so soon to a daycare. I get bummed everytime I think about it.

  • My company has FMLA and a short term disability policy.  So depending on when DD decides to come, I'll take 6-7 weeks off (I hope to be back to work the beginning of September) and then I'll be laid off since my office is closing our location October 2nd.  I don't plan on looking for another job the rest of the year.  It's a bit crappy that my job will just be gone but DH & I are very fortunate that we can make the finances work for mew to take the rest of this year off.

  • Better to have 6 week off paid than 6 weeks off UNPAID...

I have no maternity leave through my company and I didnt know this until after I got pregnant and it was too late to get Aflac or anything like that...

  • 18 weeks total - 12 weeks FMLA (6 weeks paid at 100% using accrued PTO and 6 weeks STD) and then an additional 6 weeks for the newborn leave act in NJ (at same pay rate as STD)

  • I qualify for FMLA as well....so I plan on using all 12 weeks, 6 or 8 which I can collect Temporary disability on, and 3 weeks of paid vacation which leaves a few weeks unpaid.
  • I am taking 12 weeks

  • I can qualify for FMLA, but will just be taking 6 weeks off.

I'm with you on this! except my company is dishing out 65-80% of my pay for the year, so hopefully I won't need daycare till past a year old :)

  • I know the feeling, 6 weeks just doesn't seem like enough time!  I plan on doing my 6 weeks of STD, then 2 weeks of vacation, then going back 1/2 days for the next 2 weeks to ease into things....DH will stay home those 1/2 days and then the last 2 weeks DH will stay home full time with baby....this gives us a full 12 weeks before we have to send baby off :)

  • I have unpaid leave. I saved up enough to take 10wks off. When I go back I might work part time til I feel comfortable leaving LO with the babysitter.

  • I'm taking off from 5/8 until 9/1(maybe sooner/maybe later on both ends) all unpaid.  We've saved quite a bit and I plan on breast feeding to allow for so much time off.  If we're able to get into a good routine with baby earlier I may go back before September, but I am also considering finding a new job while on leave so we'll see!

  • I get six weeks off, but since I am a teacher the six weeks will end right as school ends, so I won't be going back to work until teachers reports to school on August 5.

  • I am very blessed to have a series of paid leaves back to back for a total of 22 weeks.  24 weeks if I have a C-section, plus I'll add PTO to it.  I have 30 days banked PTO and I'll earn PTO even while I'm out.

All in, I hope to be out for 6 months.
  • The 24 hours I'm in the hospital!

I'm a SAHM, so I'll have my 2.5 year old to take care of, as well as DS, as soon as I get home. DH will be home for a week & my mom will be here for a few days, but basically it's right back in the swing of things.

  • I get 12 weeks through FMLA. 6 weeks paid 6 weeks unpaid. Hopefully returning to a flextime schedule, if not then I will be looking for a new job!

Same, except I'm taking 4 weeks vacation before my mat. leave kicks in, for a total of 13 months....I'm very very fortunate.

  • I am a teacher and always have the summer off, so that will be my maternity leave. It will end up being about 3 1/2 months.
  • 6 weeks maternity leave (for vaginal delivery) and I'll be taking 6 weeks extra of FMLA. So a total of 12 weeks.

  • I'll get 3 weeks PTO from vacation, then I'll work from home part time for 3 weeks. I have the option of 2 additional weeks unpaid if I decide we can swing it financially.  Not what I wanted at all, but as fair a compromise as I was going to get from a boss who originally wanted me back in the office 2 weeks pp.
  • I qualify for FMLA, but will probably take between 8-10 weeks (not the entire 12). I get paid my time that I have accumulated (about 4 weeks) then the rest is unpaid. I have been saving up though so that the income won't be missed for those 4-6 weeks I will be out...
  • 6 Weeks at 100% pay, then another 6 weeks at 60% pay, so 12 weeks total.
