My son has always been a major spitter upper. I'm not exaggerating saying he can have days of using 20+ bibs.Yesterday he used 14 bibs and 5 outift changes in 7 hours at Easter. Then from 9 PM until noon today, spit up only once.
He is EBF, no bottle. I talked to our pedi about it at his 2 month appointment and because of the following reasons, she said she thought it was normal. He is gaining weight well, 12 lbs at 2 months, 14.5 now. He is not fussy, sleeps well at night and is a happy guy. The spitting up doesn't seem to bother him.
Does this sound normal to you? It seems to be so much more than other babies I've been around and is a little bit embarrassing.
Re: Reflux, something else, or normal?
We're in the same boat with our twins. It's wicked annoying. DD never spit up like that. I insisted on putting them on the Zantac, which helps the discomfort but not always the vomiting. I just try to have them sit up as much as possible. We replaced the infant bouncer with the infant to toddler rocker. That makes them happy.
I've just come to accept that my kids will be very very dirty and bought a ton of cloth diapers to use as rags for clean up. They tell me the boys will grow out of it eventually.
For my own personal curiousity did you take alot of Zantac/Nexium type drugs when you were pregnant?
I did take Zantac regularly. I had terrible heartburn. Is there some connection?
My LO never seems uncomfortable. That's why it's confusing. I would expect reflux to be.
Every baby has reflux to some degree. BUT your baby isn't bothered by it at all so it doesn't require medicine. The medicine just inhibits acid production, making it more comfortable for them. You'd know if he had it, he'd be fussy and crying a lot like my baby. Sounds like you just have a laundry issue (that's something I don't envy).
I seriously stop changing his outfit every time unless we're going out. I wipe it with a wipe so it "cleans" the outfit and doesn't smell.
Good to know.
I can deal with the laundry. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something. I tell my husband we should supply a raincoat to people when they want to hold him.
