What did you put in your hospital bag?

I'm 29 weeks pregnant with identical twin girls and today I started packing my bag for the hospital till i realized that I have NO idea of what to put in it.

What did you have in your bag for yourself, babies and DH?

Thanks!!!

Re: What did you put in your hospital bag?

  • This is coming from the perspective of a c-section mommy who had her babies go straight to the NICU after birth.  I had the girls Friday night, and was discharged without them Tuesday.  Because I had to walk between my room and the NICU, I wore my own clothes other than the mesh underwear after I took my first shower on Saturday.

nursing tanks- I could not have survived without these, wore one every day.

yoga pants- mid rise was good, low rise would have killed me

    socks

slippers- after not having much swelling during my pregnancy, my feet were HUGE after I delivered.

cardigan sweater- great for tossing over my nursing tank for going between my room and the NICU, as well as when visitors were there.

    camera with extra batteries

toiletries- I didn't bother with wearing makeup, but used everything else

    laptop and phone charger

    my own pillow

change of clothes and toothbrush for DH- he spent the first night with me and was glad to have a pair of clean clothes the next morning

I did pack clothes for the girls, but didn't use them as they were not discharged with me.

  • I packed a bunch of comfy clothes for myself (yoga pants, etc), but wore none of them, as I stayed in the johnny the whole time I was in the hospital. I also had comfy socks, but I wore the hospital non-skid socks.  I liked that I could have a whole new "outfit" whenever I wanted and didn't have to worry about laundry or messing up my own stuff.  Plus, I had a c-section, and the johnny seemed much more comfortable than having something around my waist.  I also loved the mesh hospital underwear.  With that said, the only thing I was glad to have packed were some cheapo flip flops.  I bought them to wear in the shower (per others' suggestions), and didn't, but when it was time to go home, they were the only thing that fit on my swollen feet.  I would have had to go home barefoot if I hadn't brought the flip flops because the shoes I wore in literally would not come close to fitting!

Other items: my own pillow, a nursing bra, basic toiletries (although my hospital had pretty much all the basics for us), camera, cell phone and charger, clothes (esp. PJ pants) for DH.
