How soon can you really find out the gender?!!

Okay, so I am so impatient, but enjoying every part of being pregnant - I guess because the only symptom I have is fatigue! I am just about 12 weeks along and I am really excited to find out the gender. I have an ultrasound next week and my doctor said they could probably tell the sex, but not to go out buying anything! So what's the story? I guess I will have to wait until my next u/s!! Goodness, I know I should be cherishing this, but I am so excited!

You can actually find out as early as five weeks via early gender determination testing (it's done via the mom's bloodwork.) It's 95% to 99% accurate (depending on what you read), which is more accurate than an u/s.

The Center for Medical Genetics offers it for $175 if you're truly impatient

Ditto kat.in.the.hat. We got the NT scan at the CMG, and they asked if we wanted to find out the gender. A week later, they told us over the phone that it was a boy.

Yeah, my NT scan was at CMG and the gender screen was free because of an agreement they had with my OB. So we found out around 14 weeks (NT scan was in the 13th week.)

Although with a girl it's not quite as accurate as with a boy, since absence of the Y chromosome is not definitive! But still, it was accurate for our girl.

With #1 we found out at about 12 weeks via ultra sound and the OB's office. It was VERY obvious.. #2 was a girl and they wouldn't give me the it's okay to buy pink until about 16 weeks... However, I was sure it was a girl since I had seen how obvious the boy was at 12 weeks...
