We've been home from the NICU for two weeks now, and Hunter is five weeks old (corrected), four and a half months old (actual.)
I've been fighting a cold all week.. sore throat, sinus congestion, sneezing.
Now Hunter is producing mega boogers, sneezing, and spitting up half digested milk (some of which makes its way out of the booger-filled nose.)
I'm using the bulb aspirator to get what I can out of his nose, and trying to keep him otherwise comfortable. Is there anything else I can do for him?
We're up to date on our RSV shots, but how concerned do I have to be about that? Do I only take him in if he's having a lot of trouble breathing? Why do these things crop up on a holiday weekend?
Thanks for your support, as always!!
Re: Sick baby.. RSV concern?
Ditto the pp, I'd call the pedi just to be sure.
Does he have a fever? My DS had RSV back in January despite the RSV shots and he had a cough and fever in addition to what you describe above. The pedi gave us a nebulizer and told us to let him sleep in the bouncy seat and use saline drops in his nose.
PS - Hunter is so cute!
Thanks guys.. I've got a call into the pedi's after hours number, but no call back yet.
The stuffy nose is now runny, which is gross but at least it's coming out.
We'll try steaming him in the bathroom a bit to help clear him out.
I feel so bad for the little guy.. he just seems so miserable!! I hope he gets through this quickly.
I think all of the previous recommendations are good ones. If he will sleep in the bouncy, it might not be a bad idea. He'll stay upright and safely secured. Keep the liquids coming...sounds like you're becoming a pro with the aspirator. Good job!...Steam, humidifier, all good....
Hang in there!
