Getting a detachable bassinet with your stroller?

For those of you who have or are getting a stroller with a detachable bassinet/carrycot - Bugaboos, Bumblerides, etc - I've seen/read that some people detach the bassinet from the stroller and use as an actual separate bassinet for nighttime sleeping (setting up on a Moses basket frame) and keeping with you in the bedroom.

Just curious about the safety of this and if anyone is planning on going this route.

Re: Getting a detachable bassinet with your stroller?

  • thought about it but decided against.  I have a bassinet I'm borrowing for baby to sleep in.

We have the UppaBaby Vista and plan to use it when the baby is still pretty small.  It is a big bassinet (much bigger than I was thinking) and will be wonderful when we travel to the ILs during the newborn phase.

I hope to have her in her crib by the time the bassinet would be too small.

So, will you be using it more as occasional use - rather than everyday use?

Basically, I'm pondering moving our Pack N' Play downstairs (which we planned on using when the baby was little), and trying to figure out what I should use in our bedroom, before we move the baby to the crib in the nursery.

  • We bought an orbit system. The bassinet feature on it comes with a rocker. So we deceided to put our pack and play in our bedroom and our bassinet with rocker in he living room. The cool part is the rocker works with any of the peices of our system. So he can sleep in any of those!
  • Also have the Uppa Baby and will be using the bassinett ( with a moses basket stand) in the bedroom. My house is only one level so I am going to try to use the crib as much as possible to get her used to it. I have a feeling I will want her by me when I sleep though:)
  • I have the Icoo Targo and we plan to use the pram part for the baby to sleep in during the first weeks. I'm not sure how long we will do this because I hope that we can transition to the crib in a timely manner, but we will definitely utilize the pram piece for sleeping while traveling.

No we plan to use it daily (both upstairs and in our room for sleeping) while the baby is less than 3 months or so.

  • This is what I'm hoping to do, but until I decide on the exact stroller we're getting I won't know for sure if I will be able to get a bassinet stand that will work/be safe enough for this plan to work. Fingers crossed!!

  • We used our bassinet from the bugaboo frog for the first month or so... the deal breaker was when my daughter got sick and I had to take the entire thing apart to clean it. The bugaboo style is a bit different than Uppa Baby or Baby Jogger.

I used it a lot when we were out and about, running errands and such. I thought I was going to use it on the stroller frame but it ended up being too tight of a squeeze next to our bed.

  • We have used our UppaBaby bassinet for the last 10 weeks in a Jolly Jumper rocking bassinet stand and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. It really is very useful but to be honest I have only used it outside the house once. I carry it from upstairs to the main floor everyday.
  • We'll be using our UppaBaby bassinet in a moses basket stand from Restoration Hardware.
