Supposedly the PNV should have a ton of folic acid than the regular. But if their exactly the same than all of my reading up on vitamins has been a lie. Oh well.
I have a prenatal plus that costs me $5 a month from my pharmacy through my insurance, which is way cheaper than store vitamins. Also the "plus" in my vitamin means 20mg of iron and 1 mg of folic acid (1000 mcg)
A prenatal will contain more iron, folic acid, and many times more calcium. There are also reduced levels of certain vitamins that aren't necessary in high levels during pregnancy, like vitamin A.
Each variety has a different serving size so just be careful when comparing
I'm sure it depends on the multi-vitamin. I've had a lot of trouble keeping prenatals down and my OB said I could take two flintstone vitamins instead. I know they have the same amount of folic acid when taking two, so who knows.
