So I rode the train down to Belmont today to get a mani/pedi. I haven't been riding the train much, as my husband's work is off the train and mine is not, so I drive. i had the day off today so he took the car.
I was on for a few stops, and it got really crowded. There were no seats left (i had one, thankfully). A VERY VERY pregnant woman got on, further along than myself, and not ONE person got up to offer her their seat, so I did. Why is it that a pregnant woman isn't offered a seat? I was always taught to get up for elderly, pregnant, disabled, etc... All of the people were in my generation or one generation under me (I'm 25). I'm ashamed to be a part of such a rude generation and a group of people whose parents didn't teach them better. These people didn't see that one pregnant woman got up to offer her seat to another pregnant woman?!
UGH!
Anyone else ever see this happen??
Re: CTA Manners! (rant)
YES, this happened to me all the time on the CTA when I was pregnant. I usually had a short commute (10 min) so it wasn't a big deal, but most of the time it was women offering their seats up to me when I was visibly pregnant. And never, never would a guy of the younger generation (under 25) offer his seat.
I'll never forget the time I had to take the brown line from Adams to Rockwell and it was packed, and I was about 35 weeks pregnant at the time. When a seat finally opened up a young guy immediately ran and took it. When another seat opened up, his friend grabbed it. I was standing right next to them and they could care less.
When I was pregnant w/ DS1 I had something similar happen. Except it was an elderly woman with a cane needing a seat and not another pregnant woman, which is worse! There are people out there who don't think pregnant women deserve to get seats (obviously, they have never been hugely pregnant). Anyway, not a single person got up to offer this elderly woman a seat on the bus, and it was very crowded. So I did, and I was somewhere around 34 or 35 weeks pregnant, so obviously huge.
Luckily it seemed someone noticed the exchange and offered me their seat afterwards. But people can be completely oblivious and rude on the CTA sometimes.
You mean that ad campaign where the young(ish) guy offers up his seat to an elderly woman is NOT true? I'm shocked! (sarcasm
)
People suck.
EXACT same thing happened to me too!
I rarely if EVER ride PT .... I did once while PG
Even in stores ... they see your PG and can't easily maneuver and still don't give a shiit ... ram their carts right in to you.
