Hi all, I am 24 weeks and getting a bit worried about the birth of our baby. My mom's side of the family has a history of c-sections because of small pelvic bones. For my mom this problem did not allow me to drop and I was 2 weeks late before the doctors induced labor ending in c-section because of fetal distress. My question is I have heard of a measurement test to measure baby at about 37 weeks to make sure that baby will fit. Has anyone heard of/ had this test done? I had asked my doctor but she just told me that c-sections were not hereditary, which didn't really make me feel better. Any information would be great. Thanks!
Re: C-Section Question.
A growth u/s can be done late in the 3rd trimester but it's not always accurate. I had an u/s 5 days before my edd to confirm that DS was breech and to see if a version was a possibility. They estimated that DS was almost 8lbs. He was born via c/s two days later and weighed 5lbs 12oz. Not even close.
As far as determining if a baby will fit through your pelvis, the only true way to determine that is during surgery. There are honestly very few people that have a pelvis that is too small to deliver a baby. Have you considered hiring a doula who can assist you during labor with positioning to open up your pelvis?
c/s's are not hereditary. I would educate yourself in both births and be prepared for both. There are so many techniques you can do to open the pelvis. Try spinningbabies.com and possibly hiring a doula. There is no way to tell if you can deliver a baby, plike pp said only sugury.
Also, my sonogram for weight was done at 37 weeks, and it said DD was 7lbs 14oz then. She was born 1 week later and was 7lbs 4oz so, those are always off in my opinion.
