Eye contact?

I feel like my one DD rarely makes eye contact w/ my other DD. I posted last week about her still not totally acknowledging/interacting with her sister (who, on the opposite, is begging for her attention).

When I call her name, she looks over towards me, but sometimes doesn't make eye contact. I feel like that is only the case when I am standing over her or holding her up over my head facing me. Other DD looks right at me/her sister, etc.

Am I being paranoid/ worrying for nothing? I am just nervous as to why she doesn't look directly at others and hope it isn't something to be concerned about.

Anyone else have this going on/happen? Does it get better with age?

Re: Eye contact?

  • I think it's normal that she's not making eye contact at this age with another baby. I'm not sure about the eye contact with you; I'd ask the pedi. I've had similar concerns about one of my boys and it has gotten a little better over time but he still seems reluctant to make eye contact at times. I'm going to ask the dr about it at their 15m appt next Friday.

  • My LOs didn't really acknowledge each other (via eye contact or touching or really looking at hte other for any period of time or with any interest) until they were at least 5-6 months old. I don't think eye contact w/ other babies or kids around them is expected at your LOs age so try not to worry. Eye contact with you when you're holding/talking to/etc is different though, I can't remember offhand what the milestone age is for that. Our DD definitely did the eye contact thing later than DS (and also smiling, laughing, rolling.... she only cooed first I think). As for looking at you when you call her name, that isn't b/c it is her name,it is just the sound of your voice & tone, babies don't really recognize their name until they're much older.
