My mom is constantly calling me about her computer "freaking" out or doing something she doesn't understand. I try to help but she doesn't know how to refresh pages, go back or forward (navigate pages) and even copying and pasting links is unknown to her. In a calm tone I said "have you thought about maybe doing a computer course at the library or job market?"
She got upset and said she knows how to do this stuff but its the computer. I can tell you it isn't the computer because I gave her that laptop. It's user error. I don't get why it's unheard of to take a short class and learn how to navigate the web and use a computer properly. UGH!
Re: Why does it insult people's pride to suggest they take a class on something they don't know about?

Because it's easier to call someone who knows what they're doing and make them take time out of their day to help you.
Doesn't make it right, but it's the truth.
