PW: best way to wash crocheted blanket?

My friend made me a gorgeous star-shaped crochet blanket for the baby, but did something to it so it's laden with fabric softener! If it was a slight scent, I wouldn't worry about it, but the blanket smells "bad" to me since I'm not used to artificial scents anymore.

What should I do? Soak it in the tub? I'm afraid it will get too fuzzy if I put it in the washer.

Cold/delicate wash, hang dry.

I'd handwash and dry flat. A gentle wash on your washer would probably be fine, but definitely dry flat.
