Trying to Get Pregnant

CVS OPK test---- + or -?

I am pretty new to all this TTC stuff and this month I decided to try an OPK.  I still haven't gotten into charting, although, as confusing as these OPK's seem to be I am thinking maybe I should!

My LMP was 3/17 and I started testing on Sunday (CD12) since I usually have 29-30 day cycle.  I can't tell if the results are positive or negative....   and what makes it more confusing is I have been getting the same results for the past four days!

My biggest question is does anyone have experience with the CVS brand OPK, and would you consider these results to be +/-?

Help!  :)

Re: CVS OPK test---- + or -?

  • to me it looks like the darkest part of your test line is as dark as the control, I would say its a +!

I use those too and have never had anything more than a light line so its exciting to me to see anything dark even if its not mine, lol

    added a PIP

  • Thanks Stucas for replying!

Assuming it is positive-- I wish I had started testing earlier than CD12 because then maybe I would have more of a comparison... to really see the difference.

And if these past four days have been negative, I wonder when I will get my positive!?!?

Well, we just keep BD'ing and I will keep testing every morning until I get some kind of a change.

    So confusing!  :)

  • Double check the directions, but I don't think you're supposed to use OPKs first thing in the morning...I've heard they're more accurate in the afternoon.

    Good Luck!

  • That is what I thought too, but on the instructions it says to use FMU.

Everywhere else I read says that is not the best though, so maybe I should start testing later.  The problem is that it is hard for me to go four hours without drinking water--I don't like feeling dehydrated.  So, I figure I will go with what the box says.  :)

  • Thanks Mrs. Bones for the info.  Maybe I will try a little later in the day if I can hold out on the water.  :)
  • They look positive to me, but I wanted to let you know that I tried those CVS OPKs and they ALWAYS looked like that.  My entire cycle.  I switched to Walgreens mid-stream, which worked much better, but were $$, so I tried the early-pregnancy-tests.com OPKs which also work great and are much easier to read. When I finally got a real positive, there was no questioning it.

I think I read somewhere that the CVS OPKs can be too sensitive for some.

    Good luck!

  • ASUBride- good to know.  If I don't get lucky this month I am for sure switching brands.  This madness is driving me crazy.  I have done every trick trying to decipher these things--- closed one eye, put them in the sunlight, asked every neighbor on the block (j/k).

I guess we will just have to BD lots until I am sure that ovulation has passed.

  • The CVS ones do say to use FMU. I use those in the morning and amazon tests in the afternoon. I'm going to stop using the CVS ones when they run out.

Have you only used them for 4 days? I would use out the whole container and compare a full month.

  • Yes, I just started on Sunday.  One of my friends talked me into getting one instead of just guessing.  So I don't have much comparison.

I will just finish the whole pack out and see if anything changes in the color of the test line by day.  It seems weird that the line hasn't started to fade at all!

I need something a little more obvious!  I am no expert at this!  haha!

  • I had no idea TTC would involve this much pee analysis!  I could open up a Quest lab in my bathroom!

This. I didn't have much luck with the CVS brand OPK's either. I switched to the Early-pregnancy-test.com brand and they work SO much better for me. I use FMU for my OPK's too, and I think my readings are quite accurate (can't know for sure since I don't chart). I've never missed a surge (that I know of atleast!)

I honestly wouldn't mark these as positives, since my test lines end up getting darker, but everybody is different. I would probably have sex tonight to be safe, but I would also keep testing tomorrow.

Have fun, and Good luck! Wink
