I'm not trying to be an AW, I just thought my origional post wasn't clear.

I just stated that I probably will go in for some urine tests, but I don't think it's being irresponsible to opt out of other testing.

Also LOL pixy! Yes, we were able to clearly feel the baby's body, including legs around 17 weeks, so I don't think it's too far fetched for him to worry about hurting LO. Even though there is fluid around, he just didn't think it was enough padding. Stick out tongue

    Wait.  Is this even possible?

Yes. I started feeling flutters at 14 weeks, DH and I both felt outside kicks at 16... When laying on my back her position was easily distinguishable that early. I even told him before our anatomy scan at 18 weeks exactly how she was laying and it was confirmed when the ultrasound started. I could feel legs.

I read it as you could feel the legs, as in you could put your fingers on your belly and feel the legs vs. the torso.  Not that you could feel kicks.

No, you read right. I could feel the legs sticking out from the body when I put my hand on my stomach.

Just imagine what you will be feeling at say 36 or 37 weeks!  That baby is going to reach out and grab you from inside!  Sorry, but you first timers give me the giggles sometimes!

For real?  My MIL said there was no way I could feel even flutters by 16 weeks when I told her because SHE couldn't feel it til after 20 weeks. People telling someone what they can and can't feel in their own body has to be the most annoying thing ever.

  • You know what... I agree with you.  If you are having a normal low risk pregnancy, everything does seem pointless.  My OB hasn't answered any questions.  I have answered them myself through reading books.  I actually switched to a midwife group because I wasn't happy with my OB.  I do think maybe you should have an alternative, like seeing a midwife in your home once or twice before the big US.  That way you could hear the heartbeat and ask questions.  But really, this whole process has become a bit of a business and a lot of what they do is really not necessary if you're having a normal pregnancy.  If you are at risk that's a different story.  I guess when it comes down to it, just do what you feel is best.

  • Well...I think after reading all of this I am done with the bump or at least 2nd tri.  Some of you people will find any reason to give people a hard time.  This isn't even the worst of what I have read on here, but I don't really think this is for me anymore.  You can share your opinion without being so ridiculously rude, but since this isn't a place for "support", I'll just leave it at that.

Ah try not to take offense, I didn't. This really was very mild. Plus when I posted this I expected different opinions, no biggie.

I hope you stick around though. Just don't post anything like I did! LOL

I didn't read your first post, but I am receiving wonderful prenatal care, however I do opt out of a lot of the testing. I just don't think a lot of it is necessary. My mom is an OB and completely agrees with me...she said a lot of them are done for the mother's peace of mind.

I don't really care if my child has down's syndrome, for one...I'm still going to raise it and love it as if it didn't. I'll see a specialist and do what needs to be done if my child was born with something. If it wasn't meant to be, it won't be. That's my philosophy.

I don't think she's saying she won't get ANY prenatal care...she clearly stated she would still get her urine tests and get checked out, etc... she just doesn't see a lot of the testing as necessary, and I do agree with her on that. I think prenatal care is very important, but if you find the right OB, you can both be on the same page about your wants throughout your care! Easy as pie!

Yay! haha.. I'm glad you didn't read my first post, because as I stated I wasn't  clear last night. Most people responding today probably didn't even read my whole post because they assumed it would say the same thing. I WILL get my urine tests.

So you don't want to go to any pre-natal care visits but you think you will just drop by the office once in a while to have your urine tested?  Do you really think you'll be able to find an office that will agree to have you not receive pre-natal care but will still test your urine for you?  Seems odd to me.....

Honestly, besides the blood tests that's all they do anyway. Pee and BP.

  • For the PP who mentioned thyroid. If untreated it lead to preterm labor  or even miscarriage. Seriously. Get prenatal care people. It's important. It's not just about the health industry making money. It can be a matter of life or death. Opt out of some genetic testing but see your doctor as scheduled. Being a parent begins before that child is born. Part of being a good parent is prenatal care. Period.

  • I agree that it is irresponsible to not seek prenatal care before 20 weeks. I also think (judging by your posts, my experience, and others posts) that it would drive you crazy to not go to the doctor for 20 weeks. You would constantly be second guessing the health of your baby (especially before you feel him/her move) just like most pregnant women. Going to the doctor, especially early on, was such a reassurance for me. So, I think right now planning what you will be doing in your next pregnancy is kind of moot. When you actually get there, and are experiencing it, I think you will have different views. Just my opinion.
