Not sure where to ask this, but I had an emergency c-section with dd. My ob has said that he "is strongly against" having a vaginal birth after a c-section but I would really like to have a vaginal birth this time around. Anyone have experience with this? Is it just my ob, or is it common to try and avoid vb after a c-section. Not sure if THIS matters, but I had dd over 11 years ago so things were quite a bit different.

VBACs are extremely safe. I would change OB's. The risk is so, so small, especially when it is VBAC, not VB2C or VB3C, etc.
It is common to avoid when your doctor wants things convenient for him/her.
It is one thing if the mom chooses a repeat C. That is her perogative. It is another if she is not given a choice.

I'd post this on 0-6 or something. There are a few on here who want VBAC's, maybe they'll see this.
I had a vaginal birth myself, so I'm no help.

It depends on the doctor. I think if you want to try for a VBAC, you should start looking for another doctor who will support you.
My doctor's only stipulation was that I didn't get pregnant for 18 months in order to try for a VBAC.
Good luck!
I also suggest you ask on the other boards, but I can tell you about my experience.
I had an emergency c-section with my daughter. I was in labour for 16 hours, fully dilated, and pushing for over an hour with no real progress. Her heart rate was dropping with each push and it was putting us both in danger at that point. Simply put, she was too big (at only 7 lbs) and my pelvis was too small to accomodate her. There was no way she'd fit, so c-section it was.
My OB said that because of this, I'm not a candidate for a vaginal birth. Any other children I have will be scheduled c-sections. I think that VBACs are quite common, but in my case, I won't be trying for one. I'm ok with that.
I'd see what another OB says, if you can. If there's no real reason why you can't try for a safe VBAC, don't let them tell you what to do. I agreed with my doctor based on my situation, but not we're all different.
Same thing happened to me. DS was 7lbs 10oz and stuck in my pelxis. OB said I shouldn't try for VBAC and I'm thinking he's right. GL to you!
i had an emergency c-sec with ds and my dr told me he would never let me try a vbac. i found a new ob who would at least "let me try if the conditions were right".
if you really want to try vbac, you need a dr who is willing to support you.
p.s. ds would have been brooklyn if he was a girl!
