A mother's almost worst nightmare

A volunteer just told a little girl "come back and see me tomorrow, and you'll get a dollar for a candy bar".  He's nice, well meaning, but that would freak me out as a mom for so many reasons - not the least being the precedent it sets up - talk to strange men - get money for candy!!

Re: A mother's almost worst nightmare

  • When I was little (3-4ish) my dad had a co-worker who would greet me with, "Hey there, little girl.  You want some candy?"  My mom was not pleased.  He was a great guy, just a little misguided on the whole social interaction with children thing.

  • No, but I'll have a chat with his supervisor - I'm now not completely sure that he didn't know the kid - it was another volunteer's granddaughter that he works with, we'll see.
